Minimally Invasive Option for Treating Varicose Veins
The Background
Approximately 25% of women and 15% of men worldwide have varicose veins. Surgical ligation and vein stripping have been the traditional treatment for most patients with superficial vein incompetence – varicose veins. While these treatments have had a high success rate, they present the documented disadvantages of surgery.
Our minimally invasive Endovascular Laser treatment for venous disease of the legs is a highly effective procedure. The Laser is state-of-the-art, safe, and effective, producing superior long-term results. It offers another effective outpatient alternative, along with the Closure RFS and ClosureFast procedures, compared to the more intensive surgical ligation and vein stripping.

The Procedure
- The treatment begins by utilizing ultrasound imaging to locate the incompetent vein segments.
- Local anesthesia is then applied as the Fiber-Coupled Diode Laser system courses inside the vein.
- The Laser system, which delivers up to 15 watts of optical power, eliminates flow in the incompetent vein.
- As a result, venous blood can now be routed through more efficient channels. The procedure is completed in approximately 45-minutes, and is essentially pain-free.
Post Procedure
- Our patients typically experience minimal post-treatment discomfort. There is no scarring, and the visual improvement to the leg’s appearance can be immediate.
- Patients can immediately return to normal activities.
- A follow-up ultrasound exam will be scheduled a few days after the treatment.
