The Background
Across the US, 25-million people suffer from the discomfort of swelling and varicose veins of the legs due to superficial venous reflux disease. Traditionally, this condition has led patients to undergo the more intensive vein stripping surgery.

Today, we can treat our patients with an innovative, minimally invasive alternative procedure, the latest generation of Endovenous Ablation technology - the ClosureFast Radiofrequency Catherer.

  • The procedure is accomplished with greater ease, and the average treated length of a leg vein (45 centimeters for example) is completed in 3 to 5 minutes with ClosureFast, with patients experiencing Closure’s signature rapid and mild recovery, post-procedure.

Closure Procedure Highlights

  • Relief of symptoms – varicose veins, pain, swollen limbs, leg heaviness and fatigue, and issues related to the skin’s outer appearance.
  • Closure is an outpatient procedure requiring local or general anesthesia.
  • Patients resume normal activities in 1-2 days.
  • Legs gain a positive cosmetic result with minimal or no scaring, bruising or swelling.

The ClosureFast™ Procedure is essentially pain – free and consists of four principal steps:

  1. Noninvasive ultrasound (through our on-facility Vascular Ultrasound Lab) of the saphenous vein to determine the location of the disease.
  2. The VI physician inserts the ClosureFast Catheter into the vein advancing it painlessly to the level of the upper thigh. The physician then injects a volume of dilute anesthetic fluid into the area surrounding the vein.
  3. Noninvasive ultrasound is used to confirm the catheter tip position and the physician delivers RF Energy (typically 85 degrees Centigrade or 185 degrees Fahrenheit), and withdraws the Catheter, closing the vein - a process that takes 3 to 5 minutes.
  4. Confirm closing of the vein after treatment is with ultrasound imaging. Typically, the entire procedure is completed in 30 to 45 minutes.

Patients resume normal activities within a day. We request patients regularly walk for several days after the Closure procedure and return within 4 to 5 days for a quick ultrasound examination. In addition, we may prescribe compression stockings to be worn for several days or weeks after the procedure.
